Hugh Jackman has been portraying the mutant Wolverine since the 2000 "X-Men" movie. The actor's latest (and last) outing as the character in "Logan" will serve as his ninth time. Is the actor ready to say goodbye to the role? Does he want a recast for the character? He answered all of those questions recently.

Jackman, 48, is sure that Wolverine "will go on" and another actor will play him someday, Cinema Blend reported. He has no ill feelings about this possibility, though he admitted that working on "Logan" made him emotional.

Directed by James Mangold, "Logan" follows Wolverine as he frees a number of mutant children being experimented on in Mexico. He leads the would-be killing machines to safety in Canada.

Jackman told Access Hollywood that "Logan" is the "most personal movie" for him. He said that he doesn't feel that he's "got the heart" of Wolverine until "Logan," and that "there was a lot at stake" for him in the movie because of the resonances in it that "make people think about their own lives," according to Stuff.co.nz. He also believes that the film tackles the question: "Should we separate or should we connect?"

Jackman said that he was teary-eyed while filming the movie's tender moments, particularly when Wolverine is carrying the 10-year-old mutant Laura (Dafne Keen) on his back. The child's powers echo that of Wolverine's; they both have retractable claws and healing abilities. Other scenes that touched Jackman's heart are those involving Patrick Stewart's Professor X, whose health is now failing due to old age.

Several names have been thrown in for the possible recast even though it's quite difficult right now to see Wolverine being portrayed by another actor aside from Jackman. A younger actor, probably under the age of 40, will fit in the Wolverine role and he would have to be open for a long-time commitment.

Taron Egerton, Luke Evans, Aaron Paul, Tom Hardy, Charlie Hunnam, Travis Fimmel, Scott Eastwood and Toby Kebbell are some of the actors who might portray the mutant in future Wolverine movies, Cheat Sheet speculated.
