Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) is leaving "The Blacklist" soon for the show's spinoff, but the character isn't going to be 100 percent gone from the flagship series. Threats, meanwhile, are coming to Red (James Spader) and it could be lethal for the man.

"The Blacklist: Redemption," which debuts on Feb. 23, gathers Red's list of the globe's most elusive criminals. In order to redeem themselves, the delinquents form an elite mercenary team and to try to make up for the damage they inflicted on the world over the years.

The spinoff stars Eggold, Famke Janssen (Susan "Scottie" Hargrave), Terry O'Quinn and the deadly assassin Edi Gathegi as Matias Solomon, Tom's archenemy. Janssen and O'Quinn's characters are Tom's parents, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"The Blacklist: Redemption" executive producer John Eisendrath said that Tom is "always going to be part" of the flagship series, adding that the character's departure isn't "a period; it's more of a comma." Eisendrath, however, admitted that writing Tom out was challenging.

The creative team wants to portray Tom as this young guy who's also a "fun, sexy," and "a great undercover operative," but beneath that is a "vulnerable" man who "accesses his emotions and is responsible for the things that matter in life, and that includes Agnes," his daughter with Elizabeth (Megan Boone). They don't want Tom to just pack up and leave the mother and daughter behind without any qualms.

Tom is one of the highlights of the upcoming episode of "The Blacklist" Season 4. The 14th episode titled "The Architect" will showcase him expanding his quest to discover missing details about his childhood. Aram (Amir Arison) will pose as a hacker to identify an infamous criminal who accepts payments to "design, construct and execute the perfect crime," SpoilerTV reported.

Red, meanwhile, will try to know the identity of the person responsible for his compromised business operations. "The Architect" airs on Thursday, Feb 16, with Brian Stokes Mitchell guest starring as David Levine, "an elegant, priggish bank executive with impeccable taste in both clothing and art." He is at odds with Red because of his connection with shady clients, Playbill reported.

A recent episode of "The Blacklist" ended with Red giving Liz a cuckoo clock as a gift for Agnes. He explained that the clock entices people to focus on the sound of birds instead of time itself. There are speculations that Red feels that his own clock is ticking and he doesn't have much time left on Earth, according to TV Guide.
