Whether there is a constant thirst for he salty ocean or some rock climbing adventures, school does not have to hinder your passion and love for the great outdoors and nature. In fact, many studies claim that incorporating exploration, exercise and challenges that you get from engaging yourself in outdoor adventures with studies can improve your academic performance, and life in general.

The good news is that there are a number of colleges and universities that will allow you to be in the close proximity to some national parks, trails, best beaches, and a lot more. Here are some of the best colleges and universities for the outdoor adventurers.

Bowdoin College

Bowdoin College is found in Brunswick, Maine and the students may need to spend a few hours to drive to get to the nearest national park but the state of Maine itself provides a lot of opportunities for outdoor adventures, according to Time.

Washington and Lee University

Washington and Lee University is found between Shenandoah National Park and George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, and there are at least nine different hiking trails just within 45 minute drive off campus. If you also hate the dirt but would love to appreciate great view and nature, the college is just a short drive away from Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the country's most scenic drives.

Colorado State University

CSU is at the foot of the Rockies, and according to Best College Reviews, Horsetooth Reservoir can be found between the town and the mountains. It is where six and a half miles of water lie for fishing, swimming, boating, scuba diving and skiing.
