DropBox, the popular cloud-based file hosting service, this week released two exciting news for the DropBox users. CEO Drew Houston made the announcement at a media event on Monday.

DropBox Announces New Collaborative Software Aimed at Microsoft And Google

The new features and services are part of the company's evolution from merely offering a consumer storage to more a competitive enterprise software.

DropBox's latest salvo in the business world is the newly added service, Dropbox Paper, a piece of collaborative editing software that is intended to replace the common Microsoft Word file as the document of choice for most remote and office workers.

The new DropBox service, which similar to Google's suite of workplace cloud apps, is currently available to the general public use.

According to The Verge, DropBox Paper is the company's latest attempt to court businesses away from tech giants like Microsoft and Google.The move is the latest on Dropbox's strategy- to shift away from consumer storage and apps and toward a more competitive enterprise software.

DropBox Adds New Syncing Feature

At the DropBox's media event on Monday, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston has introduced to the world another useful DropBox feature.

According to TechCrunch, Smart Sync is a newly added DropBox feature that allows users and companies to access files stored in Dropbox's data centers without having to download every file to their PC or mobile device.

Smart Sync also adds speedier and automatic syncing, and most importantly eliminates storage requirements for the physical hard drive. In addition to the automatic syncing, the feature also introduces Dropbox design elements like the team member photos which indicate who the file is shared with.

Currently, this feature is only available to a few Dropbox customers in a trial period until it debuts at large at an undetermined release date.

DropBox is making Smart Sync available for all Dropbox Business and enterprise customers this week for early access.
