It might come as a surprise to a lot of people but it has been confirmed that Kirsten Stewart, the one and only actress who starred in the Twilight series, has published a research paper on artificial intelligence. The paper talks about the technology and technique used to produce art in Stewart's screenwriting and directorial debut, Come Swim. According to Stewart, the inspiration came from her paintings, which they also used to create the scenes in the movie.

This might come as a surprise but in a previous interview with Marie Claire, she showed her open-mindedness to try unconventional, creative techniques. At that time, she shared her cut-up style poem titled My Heart is a Wiffle Ball/Freedom Pole.

In the three-page paper, Stewart and her co-authors described how they used different techniques to transfer the images and turn the scenes of the movie similar to that of her paintings. What the team hoped to achieve was to transfer the emotions into the painting to give it an artistically satisfying image using an algorithm.

The technique that the team used involved cutting and adding blocks of texture to the images. After that, the algorithm used that and included those influences to create the final image, which was used at the beginning and ending scenes.

The film is a 17-minute short which focuses on the story of a heartbroken man whose experience can be likened to someone who is underwater. The film, described in the paper as poetic and artistic, will be showcased at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

The paper was co-authored by David Shapiro, producer of the film, and Bhautik J. Joshi, a research engineer at Adobe. The paper was published on Cornell University's online repository, ArXiv, and waiting to be peer-reviewed.
