HW2 Autopilot update has been deployed for all compatible vehicles.

Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the HW2 Autopilot update has been rolled out to HW2 cars. Tesla cars including Model X can receive the upgrade via OTA. However, the update is still in shadow mode as Tesla is making sure that it goes smooth before actuating the latest version by the end of this week.

While HW2 Autopilot rollout receives praises, the HW1 owners have been worried since Musk did not mention anything about any upgrade. A Twitter follower questioned if the HW1 will also be getting the update but the SpaceX CEO replied in a non-committal statement, saying that improvements will rollout to HW1 'over the course of the year'.

The Hardware 2 Autopilot update was tested since late December 2016. There were 1,000 cars receiving the latest autopilot version ahead of official release, Inverse reported. Tesla's journey is still long until it reaches the goal of Level 5 autonomy that allows no human interaction. Hence, don't expect the update to carry the feature. There is no definite timeframe of a fully autonomous car launch but Musk reveals that coast-to-coast demo trip could be happening in December.

Aside from the bug fixes, the latest update brings a few safety features including Traffic Aware Cruise Control, Autosteer and Forward Collision Warning according to Electrek. However, the features are apparently limited to low-speed move.

The Autopilot Hardware is available in all Tesla vehicles manufactured since October 2014. The company has a huge database obtained from more than a billion miles of Autopilot journeys under various conditions.
