Huawei's Honor 8 is finally receiving Android 7.0 Nougat. The software update will come first to Japan users and head to the United States at a later date.

Huawei Japan will begin rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0 to Japan's Honor 8 on Monday, Jan. 16, Phone Arena reported. The software update will be released gradually, with all Honor 8 devices expected to have it in a month.

Honor 8 users in the U.S., however, will get the software update a month later or in February. The update is 1.97 GB in size and Huawei advised users to back up their personal data before launching the software's new version. Also, the phone's battery level should be at 50 percent or above so it won't shut down during the upgrade process.

Honor 8 needs the current FRD-L02C635B130 build to be eligible for Android 7.0 Nougat. If a device is on the build number FRD-L02C635B100, it needs to be upgraded to the latest build for the latest software version. The Android 7.0 Nougat can be installed to the Honor 8 via OTA notification and the official HiCare app.

Android 7.0 Nougat comes with 72 new emojis along with a multi-window view, quick switch between apps, VR mode for Daydream-ready phones, the battery saver Doze and Data Saver, among others. On top of these features, Huawei also added some system optimizations, stability improvements and better app versatility to their mobile devices.

The Honor 8, which was released late last year, is equipped with a 12MP primary camera, an 8MP front-facing snapper, 4GB of RAM, a 3000mAh battery and an internal memory storage of 32 or 64GB, GSM Arena listed. The device has a 5.2-inch display, with a 1080x1920-pixel resolution with 423 ppi pixel density.

Huawei's Honor 8 has a close resemblance to the newly released Huawei P8 Lite, Phandroid reported. Check out the Huawei P8 Lite's appearance below.

The Huawei P8 Lite comes with a better processor -- the Kirin 655 -- than its predecessors. The handset has 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal expandable storage, a 16MP primary camera, an 8MP front-facing snapper, 3000mAh battery and a 5.2-inch FHD IPS (1920x1080) display. The Honor 8 and Huawei P8 Lite are similar in how their fingerprint scanners are placed on the back.
