Samsung Galaxy S8 Specs, Price & Release Date: Korean Tech Giant Challenging Microsoft With Continuum-Like Feature

By

Claims continue to pour in online as the Samsung Galaxy S8's release looms nearer. Recent reports claimed that the South Korean tech giant is preparing to challenge Microsoft in a big way. A leaked slide from an internal Samsung presentation showed the Galaxy S8 with a functionality that resembles Continuum, a Windows 10 feature.

Continuum provides a PC-like experience by allowing a Windows 10 phone to be connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It appears that Samsung likes Continuum so much that they went ahead and equipped the Galaxy S8 with a similar functionality that resembles the feature.

The image above showed the Galaxy S8 connected to the monitor via a cable, while Bluetooth would probably link the keyboard and mouse, AAWP reported. This will result to an extended workspace, a full desktop experience and multi-window multitasking.

Leaker David Ruddock recently claimed on Twitter that the Galaxy S8 would "ditch hardware navigation keys" and switch to "all soft keys with 3D touch-like functionality." Those soft keys may be configurable or customizable, while the removal of the capacitive keys and home button would give way to a small bottom bezel.

Ruddock added that the Galaxy S8 would probably not have a fingerprint scanner on the front, but it's also possible that the device would have an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Other reports claimed that the Galaxy S8 would be equipped with a huge memory and internal storage. According to Pocketnow, the Galaxy S8 is expected to have a whopping 8 GB RAM and its UFS 2.0 standard boosted to 2.1. With the latter, the handset would likely have a 256 GB memory capacity.

Reports claimed that the Galaxy S8 would come in two sizes: a 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch variants, Mirror reported, though there are claims that the handset could come with a 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch models, as well. The Galaxy S6 and S7 both have 'Edge' screens and it's highly possible that the Galaxy S8 would have that, too.

According to SamMobile, Samsung would release a new pair of wireless earphones alongside the Galaxy S8. There are expectations that the earphones would be linked to Samsung's new voice assistant, Viv, so users can dictate messages and pull up songs, among other functions.

The Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled on Feb. 26, with a price tag starting at $700 for the 32 GB variant just like the Galaxy S7. Of course, there are all unfounded claims as of late and an official announcement from Samsung is yet to be had. What do you want to see in the Galaxy S8? Tell us below!
