"The Conjuring's" creepy doll is back for New Line Cinema's sequel in "Annabelle 2," following the success of the first film.

"Annabelle 2" is a prequel of sorts from the first "Annabelle" movie, which is in itself also a prequel to "The Conjuring." The first trailer gives us a look at Miranda Otto playing the dollmaker's wife. "Annabelle 2" revolves around the story of the dollmaker and his wife who had a daughter who tragically dies.

Time passes and after 20 years, the couple decides to open up their home to a nun played by Stephanie Siegman, along with girls from a shutdown orphanage, ComingSoon reported. Shortly after, the nun and the girls become the target of the dollmaker's possessed doll, Annabelle, turning the home into a pit of horror.

"Annabelle 2" follows up on the success of "Annabelle" which was a huge commercial success with a box office take of $257 worldwide during its theater run in 2014, culled from a $6.5 million budget. Peter Safran and James Wan will once again produce the movie, also behind "The Conjuring" movies. Director David F. Sandberg of "Lights Out" fame will helm the sequel this time around.

Gary Dauberman who also penned the original pens "Annabelle 2." "Annabelle 2" marks director Sandberg's follow-up to his suspense feature "Lights Out" which was critically acclaimed, and scared the living daylights out of audiences last summer. "Lights Out" was a commercial success as well, garnering $141.9 million in joined domestic and international sales from just a $4.9 million budget, Movieweb reported.

Warner Bros. set "Annabelle 2's" theater release on May 19, 2017, going up against big movies such as the anticipated Dwayne Johnson's "Baywatch," the animation "The Nut Job 2," and another sequel, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul." It is therefore not uncanny that the producers would want "Annabelle 2" to be in audiences radar early adding to the fact that it will also come two weeks after the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."
