Lenovo has finally launched its own dedicated laptops for gaming -- the high-end Lenovo Legion Y720 and its less powerful sibling, the Y520. Both feature the Dolby Atmos technology bringing surround sound without the use of external speakers or headphones. However, Lenovo still need to tweak its "VR Upscaling" feature that enables the transfer of the screen from the laptop to the full view of the VR headset to make it bug-free.

The Lenovo Legion Y720 and Y520 were recently announced at the CES 2017 in Las Vegas. It appears that Lenovo is finally catching up with laptop gaming market and the Y720 is dubbed as the VR headset owner's device.

Lenovo Legion Y720 Key Specs And Features

The Lenovo Legion Y720 is a 15.6-inch laptop featuring 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 resolution and a matte 4K display. It has 16GB of RAM and the 512GBSSD or the 2TB SATA HDD internal memory.

The Lenovo Legion Y720 is powered by the seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processor and the quad-core Core i7-7700HQ. It also has a big battery at 60WHr that Lenovo claims to have 5 hours, but real-world performance usually fare less according to The Verge.

The Lenovo also has better speakers with its Dolby Atmos technology that enable surround sound even without the use of a headphone or external speakers. However, only "Overwatch" is the only top-selling game that currently supports Atmos and consumers may not be able to optimize this new feature yet.

Lenovo Legion Y720: VR-Focused Laptop

The Lenovo Legion Y720 has VR-related software that enables the laptop to consume 2D content in VR. It has an internal receiver for the Xbox One controller that allows the laptop to pair up four controllers without a cord or dongle.

The Lenovo Legion Y720 boasts of the "VR Upscaling," which transfers the screen from the laptop to the full view of a VR headset. However, when tested with "Mankind Divided," the Xbox One controller was unresponsive, indicating that Lenovo needs to make the feature bug-free according to Digital Trends.

Lenovo Legion Y720 Price and Release

The Lenovo Legion Y720 has a starting price of $1,399.99 dollars, which is relatively a smaller budget than other dedicated gaming laptops. The laptop will be available in the market by April 2017.
