The year is almost closing but that does not stop students from Rutgers University to sound off in various social media platforms. They want their voices to be heard.

What do these Rutgers University students want? They are lobbying to guest day time TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as their celebrity speaker for their 2017 commencement address.

These students hope to persuade Ellen DeGeneres into coming to Rutgers and speak to the graduating class of 2017. The New Jersey college pupils are using social media and has launched online petitions already, as reported by North Jersey.

To make this a reality as well, students have already launched over one thousand signatures in support of Ellen DeGeneres coming to Rutgers, as reported by Change. And if that is not enough, a group of about 40 students from Rutgers are putting together a video that will hopefully entice Elln DeGeneres to come over.

The commencement event will be set at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway on May 14, 2017. They are scheduling the premiere of the video at the beginning of spring semester in January. The students are planning to make the video go viral. Another way to get DeGeneres' camp's attention is to bombard the celebrity's website request form.

Kayla Brantley, a senior student taking up Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers is keen on getting the attention of Ellen DeGeneres. They have also created a Facebook Page that supports their sentiment. And since social media is the main stream platform for today's generation, they have created a twitter handle just for this idea - #EllenatRU.

To date, the handle has already received a lot of traffic. Brantley who is graduating in May hopes this becomes a reality. If they were able to get President Barack Obama as their commencement address speaker last year, they may be able to get comedienne to come aboard too.
