Last month, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 was reported to have started Nougat firmware development along with other Samsung brand products. Recently, an Android 7.0 powered Samsung Galaxy S2 was spotted on GFXBench that confirms the device is undergoing testing for the Nougat update.

The listing specified a 9.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 model is being tested but its smaller counterpart the 8-inch model was not seen as listed in the benchmarking site. However, it might not be long when we see the model being tested as well, soon, according to GSMArena. There is, however, no indication when the update will be rolled out, and information regarding this still scarce at this point.

More than a year old, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 seems to be getting the update soon. Samsung just recently rolled out their Android 7.0 Nougat version for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and with the year ending, it would be safer for Tab S2 owners to expect any Android 7.0 Nougat rollout until January to February 2017, PhoneArena reported.

Though it is listed that the 9.7-inch Samsung Tab S2 is being tested, it would not be surprising if its 8-inch sibling would get the Nougat treatment as well. The rumored update would be a welcome change by Samsung enthusiasts, which would indicate the company is taking steps to improve software for its older devices.

It would be interesting to note that Samsung was sued earlier this year by the Dutch Consumer Association claiming that the tech giant failed to update up to 82 percent of Samsung phones in the Dutch Market for the last two years.

It is imperative for users to get regular updates not only to exploit the latest offerings in features but updates also include patches that can protect mobile devices from hacking, malware and other breaches in security.

Meanwhile, There are talks that Samsung might introduce the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 (Jan. 5-8). Test units have been reportedly sent to India last month, which indicates Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 might be unveiled at CES 2017.
