A video of University of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon punching a female student has been released. The video was made public amidst the lawsuit filed against Mixon.

NewsOK reported that Mixon allowed his attorney to publicly show the surveillance video that featured him punching another student, Amelia Molitor, in Jul. 2014. The defendant also asked his attorney to release a second surveillance video from the same incident.

"Mr. Mixon asked us to once again say he is sorry for the way he reacted that night," Blake Johnson, wrote. "He has apologized publicly to Ms. Molitor, her friends, his family, teammates and the University. He hopes that his voluntary release of these recordings will help put this matter to rest."

The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled in favor of showing the surveillance video, since it is a public record. It was also noted that the city of Norman should release the video to the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, who sued for access under the Open Records Act.

Johnson said that, while his client is not part of the lawsuit filed by OAB, Mixon decided to voluntarily show the video so as not to delay the release of the recording. He added that further delay may only generate unfounded speculation on what happened in the video.

According to Business Insider, the plaintiff suffered broken bones in her face after the incident. The University of Oklahoma running back was initially charged with a misdemeanor.

Eventually, he entered into a plea deal. Mixon was then placed on probation for one year and was required to finish100 hours of community service.

NY Daily News added that officials of the University of Oklahoma were informed of the content of the surveillance video before tackling the issue with Joe Mixon. Based on that knowledge, they immediately suspended and removed the athlete from the football team for one year.
