Sony has finally introduced the successor to its flagship console, the PlayStation 4, but it's not intended to replace the older gaming console. Instead, as what Sony announced earlier, the new gaming console will be an upgraded version of the existing PS4 console that is designed to play the same games as the existing PS4 but with modern 4K gaming capability.

According to PC Advisor, the console's main strength could be the much-improved CPU, more powerful GPU, a greater memory bandwidth than its predecessors, the much larger 1TB hard drive, and support for 4k gaming and HDR playback. The new PlayStation 4 Pro is more suited to graphics-heavy games and the likes of virtual reality technology.

Like its predecessor, PS4 Pro also sports an AMD Jaguar x86-64 8-core CPU, but the GPU has seen a much bigger performance increase. Sony has doubled its power and its clock speed has been increased from 800MHz to 911MHz.

Overall, the GPU has increased from 1.84 TFLOP for standard PS4 to 4.2 TFLOP in the PS4 Pro. The increase has been made to accommodate the new 4K functionality.

In addition to the GPU enhancement, the Wi-Fi connectivity has also been upgraded to include Bluetooth 4.0.0 and the latest 802.11 ac WiFi standard.

According to Ars Technica, Sony claimed a much better gaming performance on this new gaming system, which said to support not only 4K but also HDR video.

PlayStation gamers will also benefit from an enhanced "PlayStation VR" experience, offering higher frame rates and a generally better virtual reality experience than the one provided by the existing PS4 gaming console.

Unfortunately, for some 4K enthusiasts out there, the new PS4 Pro is not powerful enough to run a game at 4K, but with some compromises, the results are reportedly impressive. Players will also have to look elsewhere for 4K Blu-ray compatibility, as the Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro will still not support the 4K Blu-ray standard. In terms of loading times, the new PS4 Pro could offer a small improvement over the old existing PS4 console.

Finally, PS4 Pro will not go to replace the existing PlayStation 4 gaming console, instead, it will offer a whole new kind gaming experience for PlayStation gamers, something that has not seen before in the older hardware PS4.
