The GoPro Hero5 Black vs. GoPro Hero5 Session seems hardly a contest as flagship GoPro Hero5 Black offers innovative features in voice control, durability and image stabilization, but observers say if it is worth the cost since the GoPro Hero5 Sessions offer the essentials in photo and video capturing. Moreover, the GoPro Hero5 Black may reign supreme in new hardware and functionality, but it fails to match up to its predecessor when it comes to battery life.

The GoPro Hero5 Black is the flagship product of GoPro with innovations that leave its predecessor, the GoPro Hero5 Session trailing far behind. The device during its launch retails at $399 dollars, almost two times the price of the GoPro Hero5 Session.

The newest camera from GoPro, two years in the making, offers new features not found in the GoPro Hero5 Sessions. Although both device are waterproof, the GoPro Hero5 Black is able to submerge as deep as 33 feet without any need for additional casing.

The GoPro Hero5 Session can also shoot in 4K like the GoPro Hero5 Black, but the Sessions do not have the various resolution/frame rate combinations of the Black. Moreover, the GoPro Hero5 Black has a new setting called the Linear-view, which removes distortion when shooting using wide angles.

A requested functionality in the GoPro Hero5 Sessions is to have an electronic Image Stabilization (IS). Moreover, the GoPro Hero5 Black now has a built-in GPS where location data is embedded in the captured content. It can also be connected via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, enabling users to edit videos then share them online, Digital Trends reported.

The GoPro Hero5 Black has better set of controls with a new layout, ridding the front power/mode button and just opting to keep the shutter button and side button, which now serves as the power, mode and HiLight tagging button. The GoPro Hero5 Black also has touch sensitivity and voice control, which can easily pick even low volume commands due to its three microphones.

However, when it comes to battery life, the GoPro Hero5 Sessions perform better and longer up to three hours, probably because it does not have a screen that can easily drain the battery that can only record for one and a half hours in the GoPro Hero5 Black according to PC Reviews. Given the key features of the GoPro flagship camera, there is no doubt that the GoPro Hero5 Black is a top-of-the-line camera, which has all the essentials in video capture at half the price, retailing for only $200 dollars.
