"Justice League" is quickly becoming one of the most hotly-anticipated films of 2018. It promises to be an action-packed extravaganza headlined by top actors and actresses, and Willem Dafoe is one of the stars joining the film as Vulko, Aquaman's trusted adviser. It is said that the character would have a rather prominent role in "Justice League" and "Aquaman."

In an interview with The Guardian, Dafoe confirmed that he just wrapped up filming in Iceland, where Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot were also spotted filming for "Justice League."

The 61-year-old actor went on to reveal that his character, Vulko, will be introduced in "Justice League" and will have a large role in the "Aquaman" standalone movie. He said that filming "Justice League" is a different experience for him because it is an ensemble movie, as opposed to his past experience working on "personal films by strong directors."

"They have different responsibilities, different resources and different intentions. It's nice to go between those worlds if you can. They serve different impulses," Dafoe said about the characters that take part in DC's superhero film.

However, playing Vulko in the "Justice League" movies isn't Dafoe's first time appearing in a superhero film. He previously played Green Goblin, the villain to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man in the 2002 film.

According to Comicbook.com, Vulko tried to prevent Aquaman's exile as a child, but he was overruled. Years later, Vulko met a grown-up Aquaman in an Atlantean prison. When Aquaman escaped and later became king of Atlantis, he appointed Vulko as his adviser and right-hand.

Although Vulko and Aquaman are known allies, the former wasn't always loyal to the King of Atlantis. He has gone against Aquaman several times, especially during instances where he thought Aquaman was unfit to rule Atlantis.  At one point, Vulko even became the king.

Having Vulko in "Justice League" means fans will get a taste of Atlantean politics and culture in "Aquaman." His main duty is to his city, thus fans can expect him to clash with Aquaman especially when they don't agree on certain points.

"Justice League" will premiere in theaters on Nov. 17, 2017.
