Reboots, adaptations and re-imagining of old tales is the new trend in moviemaking these days. Another classic tale getting picked up for a modern retelling is "Robin Hood: Origins," which will be created by Lionsgate.

The movie stars "Kingsman: The Secret Service" actor Taron Egerton in the leading role as Robin Hood, a character which was previously brought to life by Kevin Coster and Russell Crowe. Several young actors such as Dylan O'Brien, Nicholas Hoult and Jack Reynor auditioned for the role, but director Otto Bathurst really wanted Egerton for the role so much so he agreed to postpone filming for "Robin Hood: Origins" to accommodate Egerton's "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" filming schedule.

According to Deadline, "Robin Hood: Origins" cast also includes Jamie Foxx as Little John (Robin Hood's right-hand man), Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett (Robin Hood's half-brother) and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian.

"Robin Hood: Origins" follows the English folk hero after the Crusades battle. When he returns to Sherwood Forest, he discovers that it has been littered with evil and greed. He then gathers a band of outlaws who takes the law into their own hands by leading the revolt against the corrupt English crown.

The movie is said to be a "gritty origin story in the vein of 'The Dark Knight,'" which basically means that the movie is going to be darker than previous adaptations.

"Peaky Blinders" Otta Bathurst is set to direct "Robin Hood: Origins" from a script written by Joby Harold, Variety reported. Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way's is producing the film together with Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell's Safe House and Basil Iwanyk's Thunder Road.

The classic tale of "Robin Hood" has been shown in movies several times in the past, thus, there's pressure for "Robin Hood: Origins" to stand out from the rest. The movie is said to be R-rated and would likely show Robin as more savage and war-hardened as opposed to lighter portrayals of him as a soldier skilled with a bow and arrow who steals from the rich in order to give to the poor.

"Robin Hood: Origins" is set to premiere on March 23, 2018.
