If you are a beer drinker, this would probably sound like a good news for you! New studies have found that drinking a pint of beer a day can reduce the risk of developing heart disease or suffering from stroke.

The researchers from the Pennsylvania State University found out that drinking two servings of alcoholic beverage for a man in one day or one serving for a woman, could influence the slower decline of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in the body. HDL is the "good cholesterol" in your body that is responsible in removing bad cholesterol and overall reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke.

The study was conducted among 80,000 Chinese adults and the trend was promising. However, doctors have warned that more research may still be needed before any conclusions can be confirmed.

The studies have shown similar result regardless of whether the participant drank beer or spirit, but those who drank beer are the ones who have shown more visible effects.

Dr Nitin Shori, medical director of the Pharmacy2U online doctor service responded to the findings and said "While inconclusive, this study appears to suggest that there may be some health benefits in drinking small amounts of alcohol when it comes to reducing the risk of stroke or cardiovascular disease."

"More research is needed before any firm conclusions can be drawn." He added.

Too much alcohol is one of the many risk factors for many serious illnesses and death particularly in UK, which is why according to the latest advice of NHS, men and women should not be drinking more than 14 units of alcohol per week.

Dr Helen Webberley, the dedicated GP for Oxford Online Pharmacy, said "There are so many conflicting studies being published on a daily basis that it is difficult to know what health advice to take and what to ignore.

"Conversely, there have been studies to suggest that moderate alcohol consumption can have some health benefits - and there's no doubt that many people like to use such arguments to justify their actions when reaching for a glass.

"The key is in the moderation message. If you drink too much alcohol it will have a detrimental effect on your health."
