"Avatar 2" director James Cameron is pushing for a cinematic 3D experience with no glasses, a technology that is not yet available for cinematic applications. The director is also making the Avatar Universe source material from just one movie, the very first "Avatar." Nonetheless, Cameron has already revealed "Avatar" sequels 3, 4, and 5 for gradual release until 2023.

"Avatar 2" is the much awaited and long-overdue sequel to the 2009 mega-blockbuster hit, "Avatar," which raked in $2.78 billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide. The movie remains to be the top-grossing movie worldwide as of writing.

This could be the reason why Twentieth Century Fox CEO and Chairman Ian Gianopulos is letting Cameron set his pace in making "Avatar 2." Cameron is also responsible for another second blockbuster movie, "Titanic," which preceded the "Avatar" by nine years.

Evidently, Cameron is a proven blockbuster maker that puts the pressure on the upcoming sequel "Avatar 2," which is set to be released in 2018. There is a good chance that Cameron may be able to replicate his success as the director pushes for technological innovations to be applied in the "Avatar" franchise.

The director recently talked to Society of Motion Pictures and Television engineers setting his goal on a cinematic 3D experience with no glasses debuting in "Avatar 2' as reported in the Independent. The technology is not yet available for the big screen, but it has been done with the Nintendo 3Ds.

The glasses-free 3D experience for "Avatar 2" means experiencing the spectacle of Pandora's lush environment, which is the home planet of the Na'vi inhabitants. The "Avatar 2" story lines will revolve on the children of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they continue the battle with humans.

Worthington and Saldana have made no confirmation on whether they will be reprising their roles, but rumor has it that the two are asking for a "pay raise" as reported in Cinema Blend. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang may also return to the franchise.

Sequels 3, 4, and 5 to "Avatar 2" are already in the works with Cameron at the helm of making an extensive Avatar Universe. Unlike other franchises like the MCU, Cameron takes on another hurdle of working with no source material on hand. Pushing for advanced 3D technology and enriching a material from scratch seems like a tough job, but Cameron has proven that he is up to the challenge.
