Marvel Studios and Twentieth Century Fox is finally coming to an agreement by swapping characters that they hold the rights to. Marvel allows "Deadpool 2" to tamper with Negasonic Teenage Warhead's powers while Fox gives Ego the Living Planet to "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." Could this deal set a precedent as both companies are keen on expanding their own cinematic universes?

The Disney-owned Marvel Studios hold a majority of the characters in the Marvel comics. Back in the mid-nineties, some of these rights were sold to Twentieth Century Fox. The rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four are now the property of Fox, inevitably making the two companies cross paths as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men Universe are expanding.

"Deadpool" co-screenwriter Paul Wernick sat down for an interview with Playlist and reported by IGN. Wernick with co-writer Rhett Reese are deadset on keeping Negasonic for "Deadpool 2" and they have taken liberties into giving the superhero a new set of powers, deviating from the comic book versions.

In the first "Deadpool," Negasonic has acquired psychic abilities and she will still be a main figure for the second installment. Wernick and Reese will not be able to tamper with her powers unless Marvel Studios give them the go signal as reported in 1o9.

However, Marvel has set a condition, which is to have the rights to Ego the Living Planet. Ego (Kurt Russell) will debut in the "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" as the father of the lead character, Peter Quill.

This character swapping is one of the rare times that both Marvel and Fox have come to a mutually beneficial agreement. Fox has lobbied for and eventually lost Daredevil, who now has his own show in the MCU Netflix.

Fox needs to have an extensive source material in order to build its own X-men Universe especially after the franchise had its major reboot. The X-Men Universe has a lot of catching up with the more established MCU.

The result of the deal of the two film giants provide the fans of the two franchise to enjoy the complexity and variety of the Marvel comics characters. Moreover, by sharing characters, wealth is also fairly dsitributed, which could happen with the Marvel and Sony collaboration in "Spiderman: Homecoming."

For now, fans will just have to wait. The "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be released on May 5, 2017 while "Deadpool 2" has a release date on Jan, 12, 2018.
