The Sony Cyber-Shot RX1R II is a 35mm format compact camera that boasts a 42MP sensor with a fixed F2 lens. According to sources, it has a price tag of around $3,900, which places it at the range of professional cameras.

The RX1R II has the technology and functionality of the bulkier DSLRs, but in a compact form. Sony crammed several features like the pop-up 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, Zeiss Sonnar T 35mm F2 lens and 42MP BSI CMOS full-frame sensor into the small frame. Among these is a BIONZ X processor, hybrid autofocus system, variable low-pass filter; a tilting 3-inch LCD, 1080p60 video recorder and Wi-Fi with NFC, all of which are attesting to the price, DPReview reported.

Several new smartphones are capable enough to take good photos. Constant upgrades to the tiny image sensors mean that these photos only get better and better. Furthermore, they have come close to rendering a lot of compact cameras obsolete.

For those who aren't content with the photos taken with their smartphones, there is a tendency to reach for a more mission-specific tool. This is the best way to ensure the job is accomplished. The RX1R II is such a tool but is extremely expensive.

As the price indicates, it is Sony's flagship compact camera, bearing a passing resemblance to its predecessor and the RX100 line. However, the RX1R II is a serious piece of hardware designed for professional photographers, Macworld reported.

For casual photographers on a budget, this camera is simply not worth it. To be smart with money means finding a balance between the costs of functionality and affording adventures to utilize it.

Professionals, on the other hand, will benefit from its compact size. Being able to pack "light" for a street-shoot and do so from the hip via the tilting LCD, affords them time to set up for that award-winning snap.
