The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has identified the body pulled from Piscataqua River near Prescott Park Sunday morning as Jonathan Zygmont, the missing University of New Hampshire (UNH) student.

Zygmont, 19 was missing for the past two weeks. The first-year student who lived on campus was last seen near the Park in Portsmouth at about 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.

"UNH is a caring community and it is always difficult to learn of the death of one of our students," said UNH President Mark Huddleston in an official statement. "We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this very difficult time and will remain focused on providing support and resources to our campus community and Jon's loved ones."

Police and fire personnel retrieved the body at 10:30 a.m., Sunday after someone on a boat reported seeing a body floating in the river.

UNH officials said that the body matched Zygmont's depiction. According to Fosters, the body was clad in the same clothes and bearing North Face backpack Zygmont was reportedly sporting the night he went missing.

Zygmont of Windham, N.H., is a 2013 graduate of Windham High School. According to Eagle Tribune, he was an honor roll student in Windham and a member of the wrestling team as a high school freshman.

Dean of Students Anne Lawing told TNH online that Zygmont lived on campus in Hall House and was a wildlife and conservation biology major in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. His mother, Lynne told Tribune that he was a keen hiker.
