A big change is expected to come to iPhone 8 and iPad Pro 2 next year as Apple will be switching from LCD to OLED screen display.

iPad Pro and iPhone 8 will be using OLED display in 2017?

The information came unofficially from Sharp CEO Tai Jeng-wu. During his speech as a recipient of honorary degree in Tatung University, Tai stated that iPhone has evolved and will switch to OLED panels. In front of the students, Tai also explained that this was an opportunity for the Cupertino-based tech giant while Sharp was currently establishing an OLED facility in Japan, PhoneArena reported.

Curved OLED is not new in smartphone industry as a few other premium devices have been using it, including Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. However, this specification is a new thing for Apple. Hence, it is considered as a major overhaul if rumors are to be believed.

iPad Pro according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

Sharp CEO statement corroborates Ming-Chi Kuo's statement about iPad switching to OLED display. However, the KGI Securities analyst expect a 2018 release date for the iPad with new display. In addition to that, Kuo mentions three iPad Pro 2 tablets that will come in 7.9-inch, 10.1-inch and 12.9-inch display. Find out here for a complete list of upgrades coming to iPad Pro 2 in 2017. 

iPhone 8 with AMOLED display

Kuo has also speculated a change happening in iPhone 8, detailing technical specifications that include AMOLED display and a 5.8-inch curved panel. It will be all glass chassis instead of the current metal body, MacRumors has learned.

It can be argued that Apple may go the extra mile for the upcoming devices because there has not been much breakthrough, except with the MacBook Pro 2016 and its OLED strip.  

It has not been confirmed yet whether Apple will start rolling out the new iPhone with AMOLED display next year or in 2018.
