Different industries have different requirements for job candidates, especially in terms of technical skills. Common personality traits that hiring managers look for are the ability to communicate well, being able to work easily with others and knowing what to do during critical times, among others.

Business Insider shared attractive yet underrated personality traits that can help applicants land any job they want. College students should hone these traits if they want to succeed in their future careers.

1. Honest

Being honest and trustworthy lends you credibility and shows that you are reliable. What boss would not want to have a responsible employee? Lynn Taylor, a national workplace expert and the author of "Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behavior and Thrive in Your Job," advised that, instead of telling a hiring manager that you're honest and trustworthy, it's better to show it through your demeanor during the interview.

2. Energetic

Positive people make the office a brighter place. Hiring managers look for employees who are genuinely enthusiastic, eager and upbeat. It also shows your resiliency in not letting circumstances bring you down.

3. Respectful

There are a lot of things that candidates do during interviews that can be misconstrued as being disrespectful such as bringing in your own coffee, looking at your cell phone or forgetting to turn it off. "Every hiring manager wants to see some level of humility or they'll fear you'll be high maintenance - or that you'll be second-guessing them," Taylor added. "Remember your 'please' and 'thank you's'; wait to be asked before you're seated; and offer your undivided attention."

4. Intellectually Curious

People who are intellectually curious are constantly looking for ways to learn and improve themselves. This is a very appealing trait for hiring managers. According to Taylor, one way to demonstrate this trait is to do your research on the company and ask relevant questions that show your knowledge and interest in them.

5. Organized

Being organized will show that you are efficient and able to find information quickly. Candidates can give examples of how their organizational skills helped various complex projects as well as by following a logical sequence in terms of questioning.
