Some of the best professional football players hail from the best colleges of the United States. Generally, after retirement they take up administrative jobs in sports. However, some of them take a completely different route, challenging the traditional trends of post-retirement careers.

Business Insider has created a list of best professional football players who have made their career in finance. Some of the former football stars who excelled in college or at NFL are either working in trading firms, or investment banking and wealth management.

Top of the list is Wayne Chrebet, a former NFL wide-receiver, who now works as an assistant vice president in the wealth and investment management division of Barclays.

Chrebet, a Hofstra university graduate, played 11 seasons for the New York Jets. During his NFL career, he made 580 receptions and 41 touchdowns.

Another member from the New York Jets has secured a second place in the list. Former Jets quarterback Richard Todd, is employed at JPMorgan in fixed income sales. As a NFL player for the Jets and the New Orleans Saints, Todd made 124 touchdowns and 161 interceptions. He is an Alabama graduate.

Brad Daluiso, the third best professional player on the list, played in the NFL for 11 seasons. Daluiso, an UCLA graduate was part of various national teams including Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders. He is the first player in the list to have played in two Super Bowls - XXVI for the Bills and XXXV for the Giants.

Securing his second job in Wall Street, Cade McNown, a quarterback for four seasons in the NFL, now works for Beverly Hills-based Lourd Capital Management. The UCLA graduates' previous jobs were at JPMorgan Securities and UBS.

McNown represented various teams in the NFL such as Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers. Overall, he made 515 pass attempts, 281 pass completions and 16 touchdowns.

A Stanford graduate Thomas 'Touchdown Tommy' Vardell has been placed fifth in the list. Going further than his competitors, Vardell has established his own business and is the managing director/co-founder of private equity firm Northgate Capital.

During his six-year football career and nine NFL seasons with Cleveland Browns (1992-1995), San Francisco 49ers (1996, 1999) and Detroit Lions (1997-1998); Vardell scored 87 points as a fullback.
