Rio Olympics 2016 saw how the swimming phenomenon Katie Ledecky managed to overcome her greatest adversary yet, herself. Ledecky completely destroyed the world record in her 400-meter freestyle performance, earning a gold medal in the Rio Olympics 2016.

Ledecky completely dominated the Rio Olympics, setting a bar very high for the 400-meter freestyle with a very impressive time of 3:35.46. She finished the freestyle just about five seconds before the silver medalist, Britain's Jazz Carlin, while United States  teammate Leah Smith took the bronze medal.

The Rio Olympics 2016 gold Medalist Ledecky, despite her phenomenal performance in the 400-meter freestyle, remained candid and humble. She said that they have set their goals for the week. She added that everyone wants to swim their best at the Olympics and she was just trying to set a personal best time, which just happens to be a world record, The Washington Post reported.  

A five-time Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall Jr., expressed his admiration for the 19-year-old Rio Olympics wonder and dubbed her the greatest athlete in the world today, The Huffington Post reported. Hall said that having the top 11 times in the world has not been accomplished yet. He compared Ledecky with Michael Phelps who also was not able to have the top 11 times in the world.

There has been a notion that American athletes who join swimming competitions in the Olympics usually compete under Phelps' shadow. It may be argued that Phelps is the most accomplished Olympian from the U.S. However, many believe that Ledecky is a league of her own, who was able to break the 4-minute barrier since she was 17 and set the record at 3:58.37.

Rio Olympics 2016 will still see Ledecky compete for the 200-meter freestyle. She currently holds 11 world records and holds the top spots in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyle. Watch Ledecky's video here.
