With the aim to make careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) attract girls in interactive ways; The DreamGirls Initiative is hosting the DreamDay Workshop. The event which will be held at the Sparta Middle School, 350 Main Street, Sparta will take place on September 17 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The organizer's goal is to reach girls ages 11-14 years old and expose them to the possibilities of girls succeeding in careers in STEM.

Rashmi Drummond, The DreamGirls Initiative Founder, and President believe that girls have a lot to contribute to making the world better. They are rich in ideas and creativity and if they will be directed to the right ground will be able to create big results.

Drummond stated that the misconception about the job of engineers and scientists must be changed, and that is exactly what DreamGirls is aiming to do.

The DreamDay Workshop will begin featuring women engineer and scientists. They are to reveal to their young audiences their type of job and expose them to the reality of being scientists and engineer and encourage them that these jobs are not restricted to men but women can bring this job to a different level.

The DreamGirls managed to get the support from different companies to support this project. Participating in the program are Firmenich, the world's largest flavor and fragrance company, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, and Pepperidge Farm.

The DreamGirls Initiative movement started in February through social media. This featured STEM career opportunities. With the tagline "because dreams need doing", they managed to expose followers to STEM opportunities made possible by professionals, The Sparta Independent reported.

STEM has shown noticeable growth in the past 10 years as revealed by the statistics gathered by the US Department of Commerce. They showed that STEM has outnumbered the Non-STEM jobs three times higher. These figures, however, show that only there are only less than 25% women pursuing these jobs, The Tap Into Sparta reported.
