The fan-favorite ultraportable MacBook Air was unveiled about 10 years ago. Despite a slew of subtle enhancements done to the notebook over the years, it looks like the MacBook Air won't be seeing the light of day.

Rumors are running rampant that Apple could discontinue the Air lineup as it was one of the devices that were never cited in this year's WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).

Besides, rumors doing rounds online suggested that the company will be switching its focus on to the MacBook Pro series in the wake of several tech stores in the U.S. giving away considerable price cuts on some MacBook Pro models, suggesting an imminent newer version of the notebook, according to VineReport.

Not too long ago, Apple spruced up the current MacBook Air with Intel's Broadwell chipset, coupled with an Intel high-definition graphics 6000 as well as a Thunderbolt 2 upgrade. In addition, the larger model of the notebook was upgraded with 8 GB of RAM about four months ago, however quite a few analysts dubbed this move as mundane.

Moreover, the nonappearance of the highly-anticipated retina display made the notebook even more disappointing to users, despite the fact that prices for these were dropped to $900 for the 11-inch MacBook Air and the 13-inch variant was up for grabs for $1,000, Ecumenical News reported.

The MacBook Pro is slated to make an appearance this September packed with considerable changes within its specs.

If rumors proved to be true, the 2016 MacBook Pro will come with Apple's latest operating system, the macOS Sierra, along with iPhone's SIRI. But that's not all, the purported device is said to boast an OLED touch bar, which fans have been requesting for a long time.

Although, things don't look quite positive for the MacBook Air, optimistic fans are still hopeful that Apple will roll out the Air lineup sometime this year.
