On Friday, in the annual Learfield Directors' Cup, Louisiana State University concludes another banner year of athletics, as the institution produced five Top NCAA finishes.

The Louisiana State University's 21 varsity sports, 15 were involved and placed in an NCAA championship event, as the LSU Tigers finished in the Top 10 in seven sports.

D-D Breaux (head coach of the LSU Lady Tigers gymnastics team) and her gymnastics squad led the way for the university, as the LSU Tigers were the NCAA runner-up, which is the highest finish in program history, Sportsnola reported.

The LSU softball team, headed by coach Beth Torina, competed for the second-straight year in the Women's College World Series and reached the semifinals of the competition to match the LSU's best finish in history at No. 3 in the nation.

Head coach Dennis Shaver and LSU's track and field program, put together three Top-10 finishes in 2015-16. While the men's team got the fourth place at the NCAA Indoor Championships. And then followed with a fifth-place showing at the NCAA Outdoor meet, the Lady Tigers ranked sixth place outdoors.

On the other news, the former LSU tennis player Michael Venus was selected by the New Zealand Olympic Committee to compete with Marcus Daniell in doubles for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Daniell and Venus qualified by being New Zealand's highest ranked players. And the duo became the second doubles pair to represent New Zealand in the Olympics.

Venus, who was a former All-American and SEC Player of the Year, has won with partner Mate Pavic of Croatia 4 Association of Tennis Professionals' (ATP) doubles titles this year, according to LSU Sports.

Venus is currently participating at Wimbledon's All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Where Venus and Pavic are the 16th seed. Venus and Pavic opened up the first round of doubles play with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory against Australia's Chris Guccione and Brazil's André Sá.
