Fortune 500, a list created by Edgar Smith in 1955. It is an annual issue of the Fortune Magazine providing the names of the top 500 most profitable companies in the United States.

Fortune 500 is also used by higher learning institutions such as colleges as a gauge of success in the corporate world. Producing graduates that become CEO's on the companies listed on the Fortune 500 can be a marketing asset for their Alma Matter, Best Colleges reported.

The following are just some of the colleges who take pride in producing graduates who became CEO's on one of the Fortune 500 companies' list.

Cornell University at Ithaca New York

One of the few universities offering an undergraduate program in labor and industrial relations, CU managed to produce nine graduates becoming CEO's in different fields.  Cornell University also ranked 34 on the 2015 MONEY Best College Ranks.

Texas A & M University at College Station Texas

Number 20 on the 2015 MONEY Best College Ranks A & M takes pride in producing six alumni leading Fortune 500 companies out of their well-connected campus network. These graduates have maintained their connection to the university by attending school events and bringing in donations.

United State Military Academy at West Point New York

From military leadership training to corporate world leaders; this is how the academy produced the five CEOs who now are claiming their spot on Fortune 500.

University of Wisconsin-Madison

UW being a public college took the corporate world by surprise by bringing in six graduates breaking into the Fortune 500, through their strong engineering and business programs.

Stanford University at Stanford California

Having its Fortune 500 alumni in the field of medicine, manufacturing and banking,  this university who placed number 1 in the 2015 MONEY Best College Ranks shows that the strength of their programs manifests in a diversified manner, Time.Com reported.
