The University of Texas at Austin has grabbed the first spot in the 2016 Top Public Universities ranking compiled by Niche; after considering factors such as value and overall quality of campus life, academics and athletics.

According to reports on News4SanAntonio, UT got at least an A minus in every category except for drug safety, campus housing and parking.

The University of Texas at Austin, a public institution was founded in 1883. Boasting an urban setting, TU has a total 39,523 undergraduate enrollment and it's campus is spread across 434 acres.

Other universities that made it to the Top 5 spot on the list include California, UCLA, Virginia and Michigan.

Texas, however finished ahead of them all and even ranked ahead of Texas A&M which was tenth on the list. Texas Tech was No. 60 on the list and Houston earned the No. 62 spot on the list in terms of in-state schools.

Niche based the ranking on "key statistics and student reviews."

The site noted that the public colleges that earned top ranks in the list were elite academic institutions that not only offer a remarkable college experience, but also provide a good value for in-state students.

Niche checked 1,713 colleges in order to collate its ranking.

In addition, the site looked at an array of factors including student reviews, the general character of student life, the quality of campus amenities, professors' aptitude, and the effectiveness of the academic program, according to reports on 247 Sports.

According to Nature Index, an organization that records author affiliation information from various published research articles, UT ranks No. 25 in the world among academic institutions for the publication of academic research.

Nature Index revealed the rankings which are calculated by classifying author affiliation of articles published in top-notch science journals.

While UT ranked No. 16 among all universities in the U.S., it earned the No. 7 spot among public universities, reports The Daily Texan.
