Legendary music icon Prince was found dead in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was 57 years old. Prince was an iconic 80's music singer with popular hit songs including "Purple Rain" and "Let's Go Crazy." Reports say that the artist was battling flu earlier this month and was hospitalized.

The news was confirmed by his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure. Prince, whose full name is Prince Rogers Nelson, has passed away Thursday morning after being found unresponsive.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," Schure said in a statement, as reported by The Washington Post. There is no word for Prince's immediate cause of death.

Earlier this month, Prince was reportedly sick with the flu and his plane made an emergency landing so he could be hospitalized. Reuters reports that Prince made an appearance at Paisley Park where he performed briefly. A witness said that Prince's voice sounded like he had a cold but the music icon appeared to not look sickly.

With the death of the legendary music icon, Prince's fans mourn for him over social media. There were tributes from fellow musicians, celebrities and fans from all over the world. Some of the famous personalities who sent their condolences are Aretha Franklin, Lionel Richie, Justin Timberlake, George Clinton and event President Barack Obama, NBC News notes.

A video went viral where it showed a teacher from Florida A&M University reacting to Prince's death. The video was posted on Twitter by one of his students. The teach played Prince's iconic "Purple Rain" and then took off his glasses and wiped his tears, CBS News shares. Watch the video below.
