Donald Trump is a Republican presidential candidate who has always been outspoken about his views, especially about immigration. A new survey reveals that the "Trump Effect" has penetrated the walls of US academia. In the ongoing presidential campaign in schools and universities, children of color and other minorities felt threatened as bullying, harassment and intimidation against them have increased.

The Trump Effect online survey by Teaching Tolerance was participated by 2,000 K-12 school teachers across the country. The survey was posted on SPLC. According to the teachers, majority of children of immigrants, Muslims and other people of color are in fear of what may happen to them after the presidential elections this year. Trump's strong comments about immigration also heightened anti-Muslim and anti-immigration sentiments even among students.

"Children of color, in particular, are being deeply traumatized. Many fear that they or their parents will be deported - or worse - after the election," the report said, Post-Gazette noted. "Other students have been emboldened by the divisive, often juvenile rhetoric in the campaign. Teachers have noted an increase in bullying, harassment and intimidation of students whose races, religions or nationalities have been the verbal targets of candidates on the campaign trail."

The survey comes after an incident during a Wisconsin high school soccer match. A group of students reportedly taunted the other group which was primarily composed of Latino players. They shouted "Donald Trump" and "Build the Wall" seemingly at reference to the presidential candidate's plan to building a wall on Mexico's border to stem the arrival of illegal immigrants, Fox News Latino reported. There were also similar incidents at high schools in Iowa and Indiana.

The New York Daily News noted that the Trump Effect is becoming a national trend. Students as young as kindergarten are being bullied, harassed and told by their fellow students that they will be deported or killed off once Donald Trump gets elected.
