The Southern University mourns the death of two female students killed in a gunfire exchange.

Ernest Bernard Felton was sent to jail after attempting second-degree murder and illegal gun possession. Both Annette January and Lashuntae Benton were having a party held in the Cottages apartment complex. The two female students were members of the Baton Rouge athletic program, who apparently are bystanders in the scene.

As reported by Associated Press, a witness on the horrifying gunshot reported to the officials, stating that Felton held a handgun and pointed it to a Chevrolet Cobalt approaching him in the party. The 22-year-old ex-football player was an athlete at the Southern University in 2012. The authority arrested him for multiple charges.

The police report claimed that the man in sedan was Brandon Henderson. The 24-year-old Henderson, who exchanged gunfire, is now being treated in Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center after bullets hit his torso and leg. The cause of crossfire has been investigated, and according to detectives, both were having an argument that could possibly lead to the shootings.

Currently, ballistics tests are being conducted to find out who did the killing for both students. William Clark, a coroner who performed the autopsies found that Benton and January were shot in the head, arm and chest.

January is the school's talented track athlete found by coach Jerae Protho-Guider after she saw the girl sprinting down in the hallway. Benton died at the scene whilst January died shortly after being hospitalized.

Recalling memories of her, Protho-Guider told the Advocate how January was 'very very smart' and 'well liked'. The coach also said that January was said to have many peers in schools. Roger Cador who coached Benton explained that the slain student was a trainer in the Southern Basebal team. All of the students who knew both were heart-broken hearing the violence that happened to their friends.
