With a Heisman Trophy finalist and a highly touted quarterback recruit carrying his name at major college football programs, Ed McCaffrey may well be the head of the next "First Family" of football.

The second-overall pocket passing QB in the class of 2017 by 247 Sports' composite ranking, Dylan McCaffrey announced Monday he would commit to play football at the University of Michigan. He was also believed to be weighing a scholarship offer from Stanford, his father's alma mater and the school where his older brother Christian currently plays.

Christian McCaffrey finished second in Heisman Trophy voting for his efforts last season, which included breaking Barry Sanders' single-season record for all-purpose yards.

Dylan McCaffrey was also considering a scholarship to Duke University, where his and Christian's older brother played wide receiver. The youngest McCaffrey, Luke, is currently a freshman at Valor Christian High School, playing QB for the JV team.

At the head of the family is Ed McCaffrey, a 13-year wide receiver in the NFL who played for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and Denver Broncos.

While the Mannings have only produced quarterbacks, the McCaffreys are a different breed. Whereas Christian is a small, shifty running back, Dylan is a tall, strong-armed passer who does not seem to be much of a runner, ESPN noted.

"It's a great fit," Dylan McCaffrey told the Denver Post. "[Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh] is a great guy. He's definitely out there. Say whatever you want, but it's all in the best way and you have to say he's a football genius. I know he's a competitor, and I like to think I am."
