The season of upsets continued, and Oklahoma suffered its second loss as The Associated Press' number-one team, though this was the one that dropped them.

That made way for the Villanova Wildcats to rise to the top of the poll for the first time in school history, according to The AP. Villanova received 32 first-place votes, followed by Maryland (2) with 13, Oklahoma (3) with seven, Iowa (4) with 11, and Kansas (6) and Virginia (7) each with one.

"We're honored and humbled to have been voted number one by the writers in the Associated Press poll and the coaches in the USA Today Coaches poll," Villanova head men's basketball coach Jay Wright said in a statement. "There's still a lot of basketball left to be played and handling this will be another challenge for our team. We look forward to it."

Oklahoma previously held its place atop the poll after its loss to Iowa State, though the Sooners could not survive their loss to Kansas State. Even still, Oklahoma only fell two places and still received first-place votes.

The preseason number-one team, North Carolina (9) suffered its third and fourth losses of the season after climbing back up to second overall. Michigan State (8) also continued to climb back toward the top after a rocky patch in their season.

Villanova is now the sixth number-one team this season, joining North Carolina, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Kentucky.
