Apple is giving its desktop operating system the kind of makeover it gave the mobile with the release of iOS 7 and OS X Yosemite has a lot to offer.

First off, Apple stuck with the California-themed names for desktop operating systems, naming this one after the famous national park that lies toward the middle of the state. Yosemite was designed aesthetically to look like the new iOS, but several other upgrades are what will enhance connectivity between devices.

1. Safari

Apple has stated OS X Yosemite will give the Safari web browser yet another upgrade in performance speeds, privacy controls and a new toolbar. This time, it seems as though favorites are taken out of the equation in favor of "a streamlined toolbar in Safari puts your most important controls at your fingertips and gives you more room for what you're viewing," Apple said on its website.

2. Mail

Also getting an update is the Mail app and users will be able to send attachments as large as 5GB. The new Mail app will also allow users to fill out forms and documents from the email message.

3. Messages

The Messages app will now include SMS to accompany iMessage. Users will be able to send and receive texts on their iMac or MacBook from anyone in their contacts, whether they have an iPhone or an Android.

4. iCloud

The new iCloud will be integrated into the Finder, NDTV reported, making it easy to access. Users will also be able to store several different types of files.

5. Handoff

Part of the iOS and OS X integration will be the Handoff feature, which will remember the last thing a user was doing on their computer or mobile device. Handoff will then allow the user to continue on the other device.

6. Instant Hotspot

It seems as though Apple is turning the iPhone into a Wi-Fi hotspot, but only for a user's personal devices.

"Turn on the personal hotspot on your iPhone with just a few clicks on your Mac," Apple said on its website. "So as long as your iPhone is nearby, you can get online with your Mac."

7. iPhoto

NDTV reported the new iPhoto app will be part of an update after Yosemite's release, but it will be designed in the image of the post-iOS 7 look, dividing photos by date and gallery.

8. Phone Calls

This one is pretty straight forward, users can see on their computer who is calling them on their iPhone as well as answer on the desktop.

9. Free Beta

Apple is offering OS X Yosemite Beta to anyone, so CLICK HERE to sign up, but be warned, Beta means the wrinkles have not yet been ironed out.
