Union, N.J. (Sept. 17, 2025) — The Kean University Board of Trustees approved a policy this week to extend in-state tuition rates to all undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of residency, beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. The change eliminates out-of-state tuition for both new and continuing students.

Kean President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., said the decision "reflects Kean's role as a university on the rise." He added that by extending in-state rates globally, Kean is "opening doors to transformative opportunities that will provide [students] with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive."

The move builds on earlier expansion efforts, which had already extended in-state rates to students from neighboring states — New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Currently, full-time undergraduate tuition and fees are $15,299.60 annually; graduate students pay $18,351.72. Officials say making in-state rates universal will help attract students both nationally and internationally, strengthen Kean's research profile, and support its pending merger with New Jersey City University (NJCU).

La Toro Yates, vice president for enrollment services, said the change will enhance access and "opening pathways for more students to pursue their goals." Kean has seen record enrollment for Fall 2025, with nearly 19,000 students worldwide, pushing the institution to find ways to reduce financial barriers.
