Incoming college students who are wondering what college major has a promising future and employment opportunities can find the answer in two words: computer science. According to statistics, there are 530,000 computer science-related jobs and only 60,000 computer science graduates.
When it comes to computing, the United States has one of the best computer schools but how do they fare with the rest of the world? Here are the Top 5 computer schools in the world according to the U.S. News and World Report ranking.
MIT comes first in the list of the top 5 computer schools in the world with a subject score of 100. Computer science is part of MIT's EECS curriculum, which is considered the largest undergraduate program of the school. Some of the courses they offer are integrated with other disciplines like molecular biology and computer science or electrical engineering and computer science.
Tsinghua University located in Beijing, China comes in second place with a subject score of 98.2. Established in 1911, it is strong in research and has more than 300 research facilities all over the campus, one of which is the Tsinghua National Laboratory for Information Science and Technology.
Stanford gets a 96 in its computer science subject score as it grabs the third spot in this list. Stanford's computer science department follows a track system which allows students to explore different areas before they finally decide which path to follow. There are currently 9 approved tracks which include artificial intelligence, biocomputation, computer engineering, graphics, human-computer interaction, information, systems, theory, and unspecialized.
Nanyang Technological University in Singapore gets a 95.3 subject score. Aside from being one of the most beautiful campuses, its computer science program is also the best in the world. Some of its undergraduate programs in the discipline include computer engineering, computer and data analysis, and a double major in computer engineering and economics.
Completing the list of the top 5 computer schools in the world is the University of Texas-Austin with a subject score of 95.2. Its computer science programs, as well as their research facilities, are considered as one of the best in the country. The university has several initiatives which allow students to tailor their studies to their interests. Some of these initiatives include game development, Longhorn Startup, and scholarships.
