Sony has released a slew of devices during the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona. In the event, the company unveiled the impressive Xperia XZ Premium phone, which is regarded as the company's flagship for this year, along with other models like XZs, XA1 Ultra and XA1 phones.

The Xperia XZ Premium caters many innovative features that Sony Mobile has reserved for this year. Among the clear highlight in this flagship device is the world's first 4K HDR equipped in its 5.5-inch screen.

The said HDR capability results to 2,160 x 3,840 of resolution, which will be significantly a higher quality than the majority of televisions in the market. This momentous feature was made possible through the partnership of Sony and Amazon Prime in allowing streaming of 4K HDR content.

Another selling point in the new Xperia XZ Premium is its improved camera sensors. This Sony flagship device boasts its "memory stacked" sensor, which allows super-slow motion of 960 fps at 720 resolution, Wired.co.uk reported.

Moving on to its camera department, the Xperia XZ Premium features a 19-megapixel rear-facing camera 1/2.3in Exmor RS sensor. It adds the same RGB and IR sensors included in the Xperia XZ. Another improvement on this sensor is its "Predictive Capture," which detects motion and captures up to four photos a second before clicking the shutter button.

Up front, the phone sports a 13-megapixel front camera with a 22mm wide-angle lens that can handle low light photos up to ISO 6400.

Under the hood, the smartphone is armed with Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragon 835 processor that allows 150Mbps upload speed and 1Gbps download speed, PC Mag reported. It is even coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB RAM, alongside a 64 GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256 GB via a microSD card.

The phone's battery information reveals a 3230mAh battery, which the company claims to be sufficient for all-day use. It is further supported with Quick Charge 3.0 technology as well as a Smart Stamina mode that could prolong usage life. On the software front, the XZ Premium will run the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with Sony's custom UI layered on top of it.

Other notable features include water resistance, IP65/68 water resistance, a thinner profile at 7.9mm, hi-res audio playback, and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the side-mounted power button.

The XZ Premum will be available in two color variants, namely Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Blue color options. According to reports, it will get a release in spring 2017 and may be offered in a higher price than the Xperia XZs pegged at $699.99.
