A recent report suggests Sony will equip its upcoming Xperia iteration with one important feature that could change the game.

Sony Xperia Phone 2018 will reportedly have an OLED display

Sony gears up for a big change in 2018 by bringing OLED panel to its Xperia phone. OLED display will bring a lot of improvements in visual and camera departments.

Sony Xperia Phone 2018 will reportedly be the the company's first phone to rock an OLED display. The news initially came from Japanese publication, Nikkan, which mentions OLED utilization in either 2018 or 2019.

OLED-display phone has higher contrast ratios and it can also make the phone's dimension thinner and lighter. In fact, it's considerably better than the traditional LCD.

By the time Sony Xperia Phone 2018 is released, iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 will be have rocked the same display but Xperia could excel in camera department as how it does today. GSM Arena has made a comparison between Xperia XZ, iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7. Sony's camera has done a great job capturing the details and managed to produce crisper shots than iPhone 7's.

Xperia XZ gets triple-sensor system according to Recombu - this is why the images captured in lowlight condition are still impressive. With that being the case, Sony could up the game in Xperia Phone 2018 by equipping the premium device with much more advanced software and hardware setups mainly for the optics.

It is safe to argue that 2018 will see a fierce competition between Apple, Google, Samsung and Sony but if the rumor about Xperia Phone 2018 getting OLED display is true, competitors should be worried about the fact that Sony makes excellent camera modules. An OLED panel would enhance the quality of image views.
