Free Graduate School Offered At West Hartford UniversityBy Amanda Foster, UniversityHerald Reporter
The rising cost of tuition fees and university expenses are still a problem for most families. Both parents and students are trying to find ways to minimize or zero out higher education expenses and at the same time minimize out of pocket expenses. And for those trying to get a graduate degree, the cost can sometimes be greater.
But there is one university that is enticing professional graduate degrees and it is reported to be free. In a time where everyone is keeping an eye on budgets and competition, a West Hartford university may just provide the answer.
West Hartford's University of St. Joseph has announced that undergraduates who are studying accounting and business management can qualify for a fifth-year master's degree with no additional tuition costs, as reported by Fox 61.
Rhona Free, the university president, hopes that their losses in graduate tuition will be recovered by attracting more undergraduate students to enroll in the program, as reported by Patch. The University of St. Joseph basically wants students to come for their higher education but stay for a master's degree for free. Boosting the enrollment rate is one way to ensure the success of their academic programs. This is also one way of making sure the school stays in business because they have faced financial strain after the recession.
This university is not the only school to offer such program. Clark University in Massachusetts also offers the same tuition free program for the fifth year. This is open to their finance, public administration and management undergraduates.
In other related news, the West Hartford school is also thinking of allowing male students to enroll. The University of St. Joseph, according to The Gazette, has enrolled female students only since 1932. Because of the decline in enrollment, the school is thinking of opening its doors to males.
