Transformers' Bumblebee Takes A Big Leap Forward, A Spinoff Movie In the Works?

By

Transformers' Bumblebee spinoff is getting a big boost this year and the latest story reveals that Paramount Pictures is now getting closer to take off.  It is the first spinoff of its billion dollars franchise.

Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures has announced the release dates for three movies in the Transformers franchise. Today, the studio has made some good clarification that the film they had referred to as Transformers 6 is actually the long-rumored spinoff movie for the Autobot Camaro, Bumblebee.

For the uninitiated, Bumblebee is a fictional character from the Transformers franchise and a little brother of the heroic Autobot faction. Originally based on a Volkswagen Beetle car, Bumblebee is a small, but highly capable and fuel-efficient Autobot. The character was later reconstructed into a much stronger, more agile and more mature Autobot called Goldbug.

According to Deadline, Christina Hodson is  the top-notch female scribe who cracked the Bumblebee spinoff and came up with a script that made it possible for Paramount Pictures to mount the new spinoff film for 2018. Reports also said that Paramount is very happy with the result.

Christina Hodson was a late comer to the 'writers room' program assembled last summer by Paramount Pictures and Michael Bay. The London-raised, half Asian scribe is one of three female writers, which include Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who joined a group of scribes in the "writers room" program in the summer of 2015. The program aimed to hatch out an idea out the Hasbro universe and come up with new projects just like the Bumblebee spinoff.

Hodson is no stranger when it comes to this kind of project. The top-notch female scribe has already worked on numerous high-profile projects, including the very popular TV series "The Blacklist" and a reboot of "The Fugitive" for Warner Bros.

In addition to "The Blacklist", Hodson is also working a female-centric action epic for Nina Jacobson at Fox 2000.

The next sequel, Transformers 5: The Last Knight, is directed by Michael Bay and scripted by Ken Nolan and Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway. The sequel is set to hit the big screen on June 23, 2017, while the Bumblebee spinoff is currently set on June 8, 2018.
