‘Han Solo’ Movie Updates: Donald Glover Opens Up About Role As Young Lando Calrissian [VIDEO]

The "Han Solo" movie is finally taking form. The origin story of the Millennium Falcon's captain is currently in pre-production, with casting news getting confirmed one after the other. Following confirmation of Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role of the young Han Solo, another important character has also been cast. "Community" actor Donald Glover has been cast to play young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming movie.

The movie will introduce young Lando "in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy's underworld," E! News reported.

"We're so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us," directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said about Glover's casting. "These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations."

Prior to the official announcement, Glover was relatively quiet about his rumored participation in the highly-awaited movie. The 33-year-old actor broke his silence when he appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where he talked about his exciting new role.

"I don't know. I'm very honored. It's a very big deal," Glover told DeGeneres. He further narrated how he told his parents about the news and how they reacted to it. "I told my dad immediately," the "The Martian" star said. "He was like, 'Aww.' My mom was in the back; she was like, 'Don't mess it up! Don't mess this up!' 'Cause Billy Dee - like, that's hers."

Glover revealed that he grew up watching "Star Wars" and that his dad was a fan of the franchise. He shared that he had all the toys that accompanied the movies.

Meanwhile, Ehrenreich is currently in London to prepare for the titular role of Han Solo. Speaking to Interview Magazine, the 26-year-old actor shared his experience with the casting process.

"It was pretty fun, because I enjoyed the material a lot. Last year I read for the directors, then came to England and did a test on the Falcon, then came back and did a couple more screen tests in Los Angeles," Ehrenreich. He added, however, that he hasn't met the original Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford.
