Much to the dismay of avid Nexus fans, rumors running rampant indicate that Google is likely to oust the much lauded brand in favor of Pixel name i.e. Pixel and Pixel XL. However, all is not lost for Nexus buffs as there's hearsay that a new Nexus 7 tablet is slated to be unveiled alongside the Pixel phones.

What's the catch? Well, it could come bearing the Pixel moniker - Pixel 7.

Rumor mills have been swirling a slew of speculations around Google's upcoming flagship smartphones - Pixel and Pixel XL (originally codenamed Sailfish and Marlin) - for quite a long time, hinting that the search engine giant is planning to dump its Nexus branding. To further cement the fact, rampant rumors allude to the smartphones that Google is gearing up to launch. Taking this into consideration, it's quite logical to hazard a guess that the purported tablet may also be named as such, according to VineReport.

There's a lot of hearsay about the purported tablet that is rumored to be unveiled during an event scheduled to take place this October 4.

Moreover, if these speculations proved to be true, Google's next tablet could be unveiled as Pixel 7 rather than Nexus 7. Also, the tech giant is said to have partnered up with Huawei in mass-producing the Nexus (Pixel) 7 tablets, PC Advisor reported.

However, both Google and Huawei have remained tight lipped and have neither confirmed nor denied these rampant rumors. In fact, a Google representative stated that the company policy does not permit them to spill the beans about such information, and added that they are quite excited about their collaboration with Huawei, though this is not the first time the two firms will be working together.

If the current trend among recently launched mobile devices is anything to go by, the Pixel 7 slab is likely to be powered by a Snapdragon chipset. It is also speculated that it will pack 4GB of RAM, and a starting base model will come with 64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD card). In addition, the purported device is said to sport a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP front shooter.

The tablet is said to come with Google's latest mobile OS, Android Nougat that is expected to pack an array of awe-inspiring features including an energy-saving app called Doze and Daydream, which is the VR (virtual reality) platform that works together with the new operating system.

The aforementioned October 4 launch event for the Nexus/Pixel 7 is said to take place at 9 a.m. PT/ 12 p.m. ET. The purported slab will be up for grabs for $258.
