Microsoft Surface Pro 5, MacBook Pro 2016 Release Date, Specs & Rumors: Here's What You Need To Know!

By

Recently surfaced reports have indicated that Microsoft and Apple are gearing up to launch new laptops, Surface Pro 5 and MacBook Pro 2016, respectively. Zealous gadget freaks and various sources are already speculating that the devices would hit the store shelves next month.

Much to the dismay of avid MacBook fans, Apple did not mention the new MacBook Pro during its recently concluded launch event. But it looks like there's still hope as rumors doing rounds suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant will hold another technical event to take the wraps off its highly anticipated MacBook Pro 2016 in the following months.

In other words, we may not have to wait too long to figure out what the company has in store.

Surface Pro 5: 'Project Rio,' Specs & Features

Microsoft is likely to hold a hardware event in late October, possibly on October 26 just about a year after the company's New York City event at which it unveiled the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, Band 2, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.

Notably, the imminent event itself is said to have a codename dubbed as "Project Rio," according to reports on ZDNet.

If rumors proved to be true, Microsoft will equip the purported device with the latest generation of Intel's Kaby Lake processor coupled with a mammoth RAM that is expected to reach up to 32GB.

The new Surface Pro device is likely to come with a USB Type-C and ThunderBolt 3 port,as several other laptop makers have already introduced it in their latest laptops.

The new processor will offer a 4K display support to Surface Pro 5. Moreover, the Kaby Lake also brings a native USB support while the current motherboards use additional hardware for these ports; which also means, the new processor will tone down the thickness of the device. It is also expected to be more power efficient as compared to the current Sky Lake processor. It will boost the battery life of the laptop as well.

But that's not all! The device will come with a new rechargeable Surface Pen that sticks to the laptop magnetically. The current Surface Pen attaches magnetically as well, but it uses AAAA non-rechargeable batteries, Citizen Oracle reported.

MacBook Pro 2016

According to previous reports, Apple is expected to cling to the same processor paired with maximum of 16GB RAM; however it will sport notable changes. Other reports hint that the MacBook Pro 2016 will be powered by the Kaby Lake processor.

The most notable change expected in the purported MacBook is the OLED touch bar with a unified fingerprint reader. It is speculated that the device will feature iPhone's fingerprint reader to unlock.

In addition, the new macOS Sierra will enable users to unlock the device with the help of an Apple Watch. Apparently, the new MacBook will be able to identify the user with the paired wearable. The device will unlock automatically when a paired Apple Watch is in the prescribed range.

The impending MacBook Pro is likely to support a 5K display with an integrated GPU. Rumors are rampant that the company could ditch the 3.5mm earphone jack on its new MacBook Pro in bid to introduce lighting port.

Readers should bear in mind that these are mere speculations and the tech giants have not officially confirmed any of these rumnors.

Stay tuned in here for more details about upcoming Surface Pro 5 and MacBook Pro 2016.
