3 Ways To Interact With Your Students Through Texting

By

As a college administrator, you are undoubtedly always trying to find unique new ways to interact with your students on their level. However, sometimes that's easier said than done. But, since most college students are of the younger generation, you will most certainly have a better chance of getting their attention by using a university texting program than you would using any other form of communication.

However, once you've decided to use SMS texts to communicate with your students, you will need to figure out the different ways you can use text marketing and messaging to interact with them.

Here are three great ways you can use text messaging to get and keep your students attention, while making it easier for them to interact with you.

1. Send Reminders

No matter what subject or extracurricular activity you offer at your campus, there will always be a need to communicate a variety of reminders to your students. You can use a texting program to send reminders for football practice, fundraising, dorm notices, student aid deadlines, study group schedules, dorm check outs, class cancellations and more.

2. Safety Alerts

Unfortunately, there could be times when you need to reach as many students on and/or off campus as quickly as possible to deliver a safety alert. And the best way to do that is to text them. You can use your safety alerts to notify your students about a fire, gas leak, explosion, impending natural disaster, a gunman or any other type of campus emergency. You will just need to develop a text messaging system that works best for your particular campus. Then have your students fill out a contact form and instructions on exactly how and when they will receive texted safety alerts. Doing this will not only make your campus a more safety responsive place, but it will also make your students feel more comfortable knowing you have such a program. And, if an incident does occur, they will be advised immediately as to exactly what they should or shouldn't do without having to guess or take things into their own hands.

3. Reporting

Using a texting program can also be helpful when it comes to enabling students to report incidents or anything else. Texting can be used to report an emergency, injury, crime, suspicious behaviors or just about anything of concern that needs to be addressed by campus administrators or teachers.

Other Uses for Using a Text Service to Communicate With College Students

Texting can be used in so many ways to help your campus run more efficiently. For example, you can also use a texting program for:

  • Sending out new policies or updating your current ones.

  • Sending out maps and locations of pending events.

  • Communicating with your security escort officer.

  • You can also use texting to send your students surveys or to request other types of feedback about any given topic.

  • You could use texting to organize and follow through with your next fundraiser and to collect pledges.

  • Additionally, texting also works great for answering enrollment questions as quickly and easily as possible as well.
