2016 Rio Olympic Games Soccer News & Update, How To Watch: Canada's Soccer Women Post Historic Victory Over Germany

On Tuesday, Melissa Tancredi powered the Canadian Olympic women's soccer team to its first-ever victory over Germany in their 13 matchups.

The Canadian soccer forward Tancredi scored both goals in a 2-1 win in the Group F finale at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Canadian teams, who finish at the top of the group with a 3-0-0 record, had already settled a spot in the quarterfinals on Friday at Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia, Brazil.

The 10th-ranked Canadian women will play the runner-up with France on Friday in Sao Paulo, based on the report of Olympics CBC.

In the previous 12 games of Canada against Germany, which dated back in 1994, the Germans outscored their rival 38-13. And they could meet again in the 2016 Summer Olympics semifinals.

But John Herdman, Canadian head coach, is steering a much deeper team compared to the outfit that got off track to Mexico in the bronze-medal game at the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Coach Herdman stated that Tancredi made a speech before the game, clearing it out to her teammate on what the game was about, it was about making history by beating Germany for the first time and ending up at the top of the group with nine points.

On the other hand, Brazil for the second time, failed to score in group play of the Rio Olympics. They stumbled to a scoreless draw against Iraq. That's the same outcome Brazil got in its opening game against South Africa, leaving the winless team a need for a victory over Denmark on Wednesday in Salvador to advance to the second round.

Olympic Coach Rogerio Micale stated that they need to apologize to the fans and to the Brazilian nation. Coach Micale added that they didn't play their best football. They feel like they left their fans frustrated, LA Times reported.
