Twitter verified accounts policy opens up a verification process for users to get a blue check mark on their account. Twitter's verified account policy may be a response to the recent issue involving Leslie Jones, comedian and actress of "Ghostbusters" reboot, for the racist and sexists tweets she got from Milo Yiannopoulos.

Twitter verified accounts will have a blue checkmark right beside the usernames. The symbol means that the tweets are directly from the person or the company that claims to own the account.

Twitter verified accounts policy is a recently created online application from the Twitter company to let users on the social media site get their Twitter accounts verified. Twitter Vice President of User Services Tina Bhatnagar said that they want to make it easier for people to find creators or influential people on Twitter.

Twitter is hoping that with more Twitter verified accounts, the new process will help people find more high quality accounts to follow and allow influential users to reach out to a larger audience. As an official announcement, Twitter's account verification process can be seen on its support page.

The Twitter page details how users can apply for Twitter verified accounts. The initial step is by making sure that they have completed all of the needed information on their account, a verified phone number, and confirmed email address, The Verge reported. After Twitter users complete the form for verification, Twitter can possibly send an email request asking for a copy of a government issued ID to confirm the user's identity.

Twitter verified accounts confirm that the user account is authentic. It is important because Twitter does not require users to use their real names when signing up for accounts. The company has been lenient with creating accounts; hence, numerous scammed accounts are found on their platform, Ooyuz reported.

Twitter has been bombarded with fake accounts that are either made as funny references or as tools to degrade celebrities. Some pose pseudonyms to perform various online abuse and this is the reason why there is a need for the company to implement Twitter verified accounts.

Twitter verified accounts with a blue check is provided with strict privacy and filtering tools to remove spam and hateful tweets by other users. However, Twitter verified accounts will also be a way for expanding users access in generating information about the platform's anti-abuse tools, Twitter indirectly said.

Twitter verified accounts was previously applicable for public figures only like celebrities, organizations and brands.
