Steve Nash recently advised his ex-wife not to move from Phoenix to Los Angeles because he said he might be traded soon. She said he just does not want to pay child support, TMZ reported.

Nash, a 38-year-old point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, is protected by the current arrangement in a Phoenix court from paying child support. His ex-wife, Alejandra Amarilla, said he has taken full advantage of that. However, if she and their children were to also live in LA, the California courts could require him to pay large amounts of money in child support.

According to TMZ, a judge originally ruled that Amarilla would not receive any child support because Nash had already given her millions of dollars in the divorce settlement.

Nash has reportedly been telling his ex-wife not to move to LA because he thinks the Lakers may trade him soon or because he may decide to retire. Amarilla contends that he's simply trying to avoid paying child support under the current agreement they have through the Phoenix courts, TMZ reported.

Nash has a restraining order against Amarallia that limits her from moving out west as of right now, but it's only temporary until their current case, set to begin next week, is settled.

The Lakers guard told the New York Times in December that he chose the Lakers' offer (three years, $27 million) over the New York Knicks' so he could be closer to his children.

"The No. 1 reason I signed here was because I could see my kids," he said. "I've been back four times. The kids have been out here twice. That's more than I could have gotten from New York to Phoenix in the whole season."

Nash, a two-time NBA MVP, made $8.9 million in 2012 and just finished the first season of his three-year deal with the Lakers.
